Old Growth

Here are some pictures from a Douglas-fir forest in the middle Mad River area. This was a neat stand, tucked down along the river with a understory of Pacific yew.

  1. My grandfather came over from Ireland and “homesteaded” in the Mad River area. He became a Redwood logger by trade. Big change… Potatoes to Redwood…. Glad to see that he left something behind to enjoy!

    1. LOL Yeh me too! Seems like our grandparents left more old growth Douglas-fir than redwood. Partially because these forests where harder to get too in the earlier times, and partly because old growth Douglas-fir have much more rot than redwood.
