Chicken of the Woods?

Help me out friends! Im sure this is a bracket fungus, but Im not up on my mushrooms. Is this the famous chicken of the woods – Laetiporus sulphureus?

MR 698

  1. Yes, it is Laetiporus sulphureus. It must be an older specimen because it doesn’t show the bright lemon color of a fresh mushroom. They are good to eat if growing on conifers but if growing on hardwoods they can sometimes make you sick. Come to the Humboldt Bay Mycological Society’s next meeting on October 15 for more information.
