Unlike the ants from Argentina that are infesting my house, these carpenter ants are indigenous to our forests.

Carpenter ants are big and black. These red ants of your’s are something else I think. Don’t know for certain however.
There are apparently dozens of varieties of carpenter ants. I know the big black ones you refer to well. I was stumped trying to key these out, but apparently carpenter ants also come in red with the black abdomen. So do pyramid ants, but they are mostly found in the south east.
Any ant experts reading this? What are they?!
